PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Israel Through the Eye of Joseph

“This land, once known as Canaan, now called Israel, although for Jew it is ever Eretz Israel, was situated between the two great empires of ancient times, the Empires of the Nile, and the Empire of the Tigris-Euphrates. And yet Israel, its rocks, hills and rivers, have survived for centuries because we have held it in our hearts and minds and continue to honor it.”

—This Immortal People by Emil Bernard Cohn.

Israel Through the Eye of Joseph is a fine art photography project that captures the timeless history, magnificent scenery, diverse cultures, and varied religions of the holiest area on the planet. The project represents the culmination of Joseph Israel Robinson’s life-long journey as an artist, guided by the soul of his people and inspired by his parents’ loving memory.  Begun on October 13, 2012, Joseph’s first-ever pilgrimage to Israel, resulted in his aliyah—his “ascent” to his spiritual homeland of Israel, toward achieving dual citizenship in Israel and the USA.  This journey produced 38,000+ film and digital images of Israel with Joseph’s intuitive creative style, at one with the spirit of Israel’s people.  Joseph is presently creating digitally painted versions of selected images, the “fine art” of this project.  Many of these are already archived and available for viewing and purchase in a variety of ways.  In addition to his artistic work, Joseph is also setting up fundraising, online marketing, gallery and museum shows, and other promotional activities.

The next phase of the project will include Joseph’s return to the Holy Land, accompanied by author Steve Heller, and the final photographic mapping of Israel.  A documentary video will capture Joseph’s deep emotional experience and revelations about the realized dream that is Israel today.  A book, Israel Through the Eye of Joseph and the Words of Stephen, authored by Steve Heller and featuring Joseph’s photographs, will depict the personal journeys of both men.
